Thank you…

…to everybody who wrote to tell me that art4love.com is stealing my artwork. I’ve sent the usual letters, and the poor fools had a phone number, so there’s a phone message or two in there as well. Their site is currently down, presumably yanked in a panic—we’ll see if they return in a form worth stomping on.

I would normally sigh heavily, write a letter, and move on with life, but they offer “Certificates of Authenticity” with each piece, so now I feel that they must be destroyed under the eyes of heaven, or at least have their ISP refuse to touch them with a ten foot pole.

I almost, but not quite, feel sorry for them. If they return, they must face the Wrath of Ursula...and if impervious to that, watch out, here comes your fandom.

*snerks, rubs hands together*

Certificates of authenticity?! *blink blink*

That is so füçking low I can't believe the audacity! Wait…yes, I can. The stupidity? That, I can believe too.

Oooh, can we watch you utterly destroy them?

huh, you are the second friend of mine to mention this site ripping them off today. It seems like they are grabbing images from deviantart.

also, you are a nice person. Me, not so much:

"Art4love features canvas artwork from art consultant Chad Love and other M.O.M.A rated artists across the globe.

10120 Forest Hill Boulevard Wellington, FL 33414-6106 Toll Free 1-877-226-LUV4"

I'll paraphrase Mr. Hannover Fiste here: "They're nothing but low-down, double-dealing, backstabbing, larcenous perverted worms! Hanging's too good for 'em. Burning's too good for 'em! They should be torn into little bitsy pieces and buried alive!

I am personally rather fond of the words of Fangorn Treebeard for such atrocities:

"There are no words in Elvish, Entish, or the tongues of Man for this treachery."

Google searches for them turn up odd things. They sure were trying to sell themselves as good guys, all the while ripping people off. Bizarre.

And worth stomping very, very flat.

Okay, the google search got weirder. O_o

Seriously, what. And for bonus what, the article includes one of the images he stole from you.

i'll start the fires.

you bring the chickens.

we'll have a potluck for the tar.

The whois information for both art4love.com and (from that tumblr post) markyourspot.com both point to New York City. I suspect information in the domain registrations may not be entirely accurate.

Man, I missed the party.

Oh well, their failbook wall "recommendations" area is still accepting comments for berating, at least. *goes and adds own 'personal' mark to the graffitti*

I assume this is the sort of personal marking that leaves one with a refreshingly empty bladder?

My work is being used too.

They are not really being very selective, I am seeing work right across the spectrum of quality and even obviously unfinished work. It's pretty ridiculous.

CHAD LOVE LIEBERMAN - ART4LOVE.COM Talks about Copyright Questions and Answers for Artists

Chad Love Lieberman obviously knows better. He said so himself.

I'm offended worst by the theft, second worst by what they're charging for art they stole (a thousand bucks?!), and third worst by the completely lame titles they chose for the pieces.

I honestly think that for most of them, they just slapped on the search terms.

It looks like they're in full retreat mode - The site is down, and they've closed their YouTube account. Perhaps they think that if they run far and fast enough, they can dodge their accusers.

I think that a very substantial lawsuit might be assembled, as there appear to be many folks irate about their art being stolen by these people, and claiming that THEIR version is the AUTHENTIC one flies in the face of every copyright law on the books (well, except the one about turtles, but that one is just silly).

These folks need to be an example.

"These folks need to be an example."

It's rather annoying that what happened to Judith Griggs and Cooks Source wasn't enough to convince people that stealing things that are on the Internet is a Very Bad Idea.
