Coupla Things…

Today’s Hidden Almanac is up!

Also, it became fall overnight. The air was cooling off, it was getting very nice, and then it rained and suddenly there were dead leaves all over the ground. Suddenly it is a fall garden. Many of the leaves are still green and on the trees, but the internal switch has been thrown. It Is Fall Now.

So there’s that.

Also, while I’d normally link this from my gardening blog, for the tale of the Scariest Insect Ever, I send you instead to today’s Beautiful Wildlife Garden column. There is a photo. BE AFRAID.

Bob's House of Discount Stigmata...

And this was BEFORE you discovered the Moscow Mule.

That is one scary-looking insect beast!

St Fenester had nothing to do with windows? How disappointing.

I think he should have worked at Microsoft.

Well, you've just assured that I will never move to Texas. Ever. Even if Austin is supposed to be just like San Francisco but with affordable rent. No thanks.

Thanks for the photo! That's some Beautiful Wildlife indeed. I've seen dobsonflies in North Carolina several times, usually near rivers, and it's always a pleasant surprise once I get past the "AARGH TEETH" reaction.

The aquatic larvae of the dobsonfly are even bigger and, if possible, more terrifying than the adults. (Look up "hellgrammite" if the dobsonfly wasn't scary enough for you.) My family has an old insect field guide from the early 20th century that has a long list of their various common names. I don't think I've ever seen the words "hell" and "demon" so many times on a single page.

Excellent article. Also your bio on that page still leaves you unmarried. Is that like being in a boy band where you have to give the image of possible availability?

Well, you know how gardeners are, always with the hordes of groupies...

Congratulations! You have posted religious spam that I have never seen before. You get exactly one, for novelty, and all future off-topic spam will be deleted and you will be blocked.

Also, parenthesis are not like salt. Adding more doesn't make it better.

Re: ((( O mankind! Say No God But Allah, Achieve Eternal Salvation )))

Parentheses are not like salt. LOL!! So, of course, I had to go there:

Matt 5:13 "You are the parentheses of the earth. But if the parentheses loses its parenthesesness, how can it be made parenthesesy again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot."

Re: ((( O mankind! Say No God But Allah, Achieve Eternal Salvation )))

Then there's the story of Lot's wife, who became a pillar of parentheses.

Hidden Almanac is wonderful!
I snorted.

Kudos to Kevin, I mean, the Reverend. Pacing is very nice. Easy to follow.
