Planting Peas Journal

And honestly, even if these don't make it, I have more seeds than I know what to do with.

One day, in my copious spare time… I want a garden.

I'm afraid to plant anything at this point. We've got snow coming in the next two days and frankly, I just don't trust New York weather until about May. Even then it's dicey.

Ah, but peas can be planted as soon as the ground can be worked!

Which won't be for at least another three months up here in NY / New England. I'm always mildly surprised by how relatively early Ursula can get started outside.

Here's to Launch Day and the peas!

True enough! I'm in New England, myself. :)

It occurs to me that this book is eligible for Hugo in 2017. When the Worldcon is... in Finland. :D

Hee hee hee. :D

Alas, I don't think there are any Sami settlements in the south. In Sweden and Norway the South Sami have settlements almost as far south as Helsinki (I have faint memories of a school trip to a Sami camp and being taught to throw a lasso by a man with more wrinkles than a walnut), but in Finland you'll only find them in the north, on a level with the Kola peninsula in Russia.

Come to think of it, I don't know how much, if at all, reindeer herding is a part of the Finnish (as in ethnicity, not nationality, though AIUI there is also a distinct Fennoswedish ethnicity) self-image. In Finland, anyone can own reindeer, while in Sweden and Norway it is limited to Sami.

Actually her main schedule is usually Kevin's responsibility. I remind her about birthdays instead, and occasionally sketch encouraging dragons or hamsters when she's deep in the Art Mines. ;)

Chicken, etc.

Long time lurker. I just wanted to congratulate you on your success, it's awesome, and to tell you that I feel happy every time I look at chicken. :)

I have no luck growing anything. At all.

I was up so far past my bedtime reading the new book. Loving every word of it.

I am so freaking excited - a conference I'm going to in a couple of weeks had a visit to Baker Creek's "pioneer village" as one of the field trip options. I AM GOING TO SEED MECCA.

And I added to that number on Amazon by one. Can't wait to read it!

I talk to pretty much anything that'll listen to me. Occupational hazard of living alone, I suspect.

I also get ticked off at disobedient inanimate objects, FWTW.

Considering I was talking to the printer at work today, talking to seeds sounds quite sane.

My mother joked about going out to threaten her plants after she remarked one winter that, "I'm going to take this azelia out next spring - it's pretty but it only gets about three flowers on it." That spring it was COVERED in flowers. The azalia lived for several more years until she had my dad take down all the lath and the whole area was cleared. Sigh.

Most respectable! Grats!

Good luck with the Peas In Earth.
