Still beating my head against that tree bark. The problem is that I've got a cool texture going on, but it runs at essentially the same contrast across the whole of the trunk. So the texture looks 3-D, but the trunk looks flat. Application of dark washes and light details to commence shortly...

And, in other news, Graphic Smash launches tomorrow, and I am so damn excited I'm twitching. The forum for "Digger" has gone up, though. It will doubtless sound dreadfully pathetic of me, but I've never had a forum before! *sniffle* Even if the tumbleweeds go rollin' through the vast, echoing silence, I still feel giddy and slightly embarassed. But in a good way.

"WOMBAT"
by Ogden Nash

The wombat lives across the seas,
Among the far Antipodes.
He may exist on nuts and berries,
Or then again, on missionaries;
His distant habitat precludes
Conclusive knowledge of his moods,
But I would not engage the wombat
In any form of mortal combat.

Part of a great page sent to me by brerandalopex. It made me happy to think that the great Ogden Nash had cast his eye towards the humble wombat, (even if he didn't know that wombats eat primarily grass.)

Finally.

Twigjack

At one point on this painting, I actually called my mother, the Queen of Tree Bark, and said "Mommmmmmm! Hellllp!" And she did. And it was good.

I've stared at the piece too long to know if I'm happy with it or not, and the photo had to be heavily retouched because my shooting conditions were less than ideal, but for having absolutely no plan in mind when I started, coulda been a lot worse, I suppose.

Whew.
