General Writing Roundup!

I am back from MileHiCon, and it was awesome! So many great people, very well-run, just a good time all around. Although they put me on a panel called GoH Remarks, and the lovely woman running things told me that I had to talk for at least ten minutes because otherwise the artists had a tendency to say "Thank you for having me!" and stop, but that it could be about anything at all I was passionate about, didn't have to be related to the writing or cons.

Which is how I wound up on a panel where all the other guests talked about how much they loved fandom and I did ten minutes on Incan potato varieties. (Which led to Kevin Hearne drawing potato golems and brainstorming potato-cultivar-based magic systems with me.) Then someone asked where we get our ideas, and K.K. Rusch, also on the panel, was pointing and saying "There! That's how it happens! You just saw how writers get their ideas in action!" Good times.

I got home, and this was waiting for me!

They'll be available next month through Amazon! (Err--you could order them at a bookstore, but it may be tactful NOT to do so? If you're going to, it may be better to go through Barnes & Noble or something, not your beloved indie, because this is from 47North, which is an Amazon imprint, and many booksellers will give you the side-eye and think dark thoughts, and I do not wish to cause any uncomfortable moments for anyone.)

If you're associated with NetGalley and do reviews, drop me an e-mail--I've got a NetGalley link for the thing, and...err...I don't know how one solicits reviews like that, so...um. If someone does know, tell me.

Finally! If you would like something to tide you over, and to donate to a REALLY REALLY good cause, please check out the fundraiser for Rochita Loenen-Ruiz! Her husband passed away very unexpectedly last week. (People often say "I can't imagine what that's like," when they try to be sympathetic, but many of us probably can imagine, in grim detail, because it's the sort of thing that keeps us up on bad nights, thinking too much. Lord knows I do.)

Anyway, a whole bunch of authors and artists have kicked in donations, and since we have reached the 8K mark, if you donate now, even a little bit, you get access to all kinds of cool stuff, including a never-before-seen short story by yours truly, called "Bird Bones." (It is silly and improbable and will hopefully make you laugh, not dark or meaningful or inclined to thrust introspection upon you, in case you were wondering. I got one of those coming out next month from Uncanny Magazine.) And if that doesn't interest you, there's rare stuff by Aliette de Bodard, JY Yang, a coloring book called ONORAPTOR MAKES A FRIEND, and more stuff being added all the time, plus you'll be entered in drawings for all kinds of cool stuff donated. Check it out, donate money to a great cause, get words.

ETA: Woo! Site working again. Also, an unpublished Elizabeth Bear story is a stretch goal! Check it out!
